Real cats, real homes

Professional take

“Most cats will never accept a brush. A chew they come back to on their own is the realistic daily routine. It supports the mouth between check-ups. It does not replace one.”

What's in the pack

Five sticks, each with the gall fruit still on. Nothing else in the pack, and nothing added to the sticks.

  • 5 silvervine sticks
  • Gall fruit on every stick
  • 3 to 5 weeks for one cat
  • No glue, dye or coating
How to use

Ten minutes a day is the whole routine. Short sessions keep the scent interesting.

  • Scratch the bark first
  • Offer it 10 minutes a day
  • Put it away between sessions
  • Fresh stick every few days
  • Retire it at the stub

Supervise the first few sessions and keep hands away while your cat is in it. For cats 6 months and up. If your cat is on medication or has a health condition, ask your vet first.

Why the mouth

Most cats have dental disease by age four

You may already know the signs. Breath you notice from across the room. A yellow line where the tooth meets the gum. A cat that no longer leans in for a cuddle.

Plaque forms in every cat, every day, from eating and drinking. It is soft for the first day or two, then it hardens into tartar, and no chew removes tartar. That is not bad teeth or bad care. It is how a cat’s mouth works.

The difference is the daily routine.

PROFESSIONAL TAKE

REVIEWED BY AVETERINARIAN

Dental disease is the most common thing I see in adult cats, and the hardest to get owners to act on, because brushing fails at the first attempt. A chew the cat comes back to on its own is the realistic daily routine. It supports the mouth between check-ups. It does not replace a check-up, and any stick that claims to is overselling.

"Just got back from the vet and they asked what I changed in Oliver’s routine. His teeth look amazing! He goes crazy for the fruit ends and it actively cleans his teeth while he happily chews away."

The dried stem. Under a cat’s teeth it frays into fibres. That fraying is the mechanism.

The part they go for

The scent that draws them in

One of two compounds cats pick up by scent. Why the stick gets chewed, not ignored.

Not your cables

Questions, answered

Is it safe if my cat swallows some?

Small chewed fibres pass through. The stick is wood and fruit with nothing added. A 2023 study that exposed cats to silvervine repeatedly found no signs of dependence and no change in liver or kidney markers. Take it away once it wears to a stub, and supervise the first few sessions. If your cat swallows a large piece, or vomits, call your vet.

How long will it last?

About a week per stick with daily use. A pack of 5 lasts one cat 3 to 5 weeks. Swap to a fresh stick every few days to keep the scent up, and retire one once it wears to a stub.

Will it calm my cat?

The usual pattern is a few minutes of play, then a settled spell. That is the normal response to the plant. It is not a treatment for anxiety, and we do not sell it as one.

From what age?

6 months and up. Younger kittens are still teething and often do not respond.
